Recorder by Ear Online Course
If you are a good sight reader, you may wonder if there is any advantage in learning to play by ear. While you may not be interested in tossing the sheet music away, developing the ability to play by ear is a great addition to your musical toolbox.
Knowing the music you are playing by ear gives you the freedom to look up from the page to connect with your ensemble partners and your conductor. It provides security in case you get lost in a score and, in addition, not needing to follow the score as closely, your mind is free to put attention into the phrasing, articulations and musicality of your playing. It also provides the mental headspace necessary to creating your own ornamentations.
In this 8 session class, you will get your feet wet in learning to play by ear. Using functional ear training, and a step by step approach to recognizing intervals and working out melodies, you will quickly progress from simple folk songs to Mozart and Bach.
